Pay up!

So the first call this morning was from the hospital finance department telling me that my co-pay must be paid when I get to the hospital on Monday morning.  Good grief.  My surgery is urgent and not elective so despite feeling nervous about going to a hospital during this Coronavirus I haven't much choice.  Every time I hear from the hospital, I think it's to cancel it but not yet.  Mind you things are changing by the hour so I suppose it's still possible.  I'm just hoping it's before I have to take the ghastly bowel emptying meds!

Walked up to the mail box.  It was super hot!  But my contact lenses had arrived, along with bath bombs and a new bank card so it was a good job I went.

Heard that Juliette has the virus....the first of myt friends to get it.  Praying she survives it and recovers swiftly.  The Prime Minister, Boris Johnson also has it and the USA has the most cases of all apparently.

Steve and I spent some time disinfecting light switches, taps, door handles and the bits of the car that we touch.  Strange times indeed.

On a brighter note, the people in the UK all went outside last night at 8.00pm to clap and cheer for the NHS.  It was very moving to see the videos on FB.

I've been sending little bits and pieces to the grandchildren each day.  Today it's postcards with the continuation of stories we are writing between us, three tiny spoons and plates and some popping candy and pencils.  I hate that I can't touch them and hug them any more.  It's really hard.

A new week

This world is so very strange now.
  • Social distancing is in force but some people are taking no notice.
  • Panic buying of guns???
  • In Spain they are taking respirators from those over 65 and giving them to younger people
  • There are not enough masks for the medical professions
  • Parents are now teachers
The worst thing for me and others though is the lack of being able to give someone you love a hug.  My grandchildren only live a few doors away but it might as well be miles and miles.

OK......so there MUST be a positive side....and of course there is.

  • God will carry us through this
  • People are realising what 'stuff' they can live without
  • Homes have never been cleaner (or tidier!)
  • Parents have time with their children

It's Saturday!

Yeah, well, that's pretty much like Friday, Thursday and any other day really.  I guess this must be what it's like being on  house arrest or something although at least I can go for a walk.  So this morning was chilly so while Steve drove down to collect the shopping we had ordered online, I went for a walk.  Wondered if Bella and her puppy Zipper wanted to come and just when I'd finished my walk I found out they would....so did another walk.........tired?  moi?  Yup!

Steve got back with the shopping but a lot of basics were not included.  Thinks like bread, eggs and coffee (either instant or ground).  Texted Emma later and she has put our missing items on her list but we think bread and flour are at a real shortage.  Never mind....ordered tortillas instead :-)

Emma had a race today but of course it was cancelled so she and a friend ran it anyway, virtually.

They did 5k, then 10k and then a half marathon one after the other.  Completed it AND got a medal!!

Found out that someone at Henry's office had been tested as positive so can't even see Emma, Henry or the kids now.  I am missing them for sure.  It's the random visits from the kids that I will miss most.  That and the hugs.

My faith is keeping me going.  So very grateful for the way my faith has grown over the years.  I have hope for the future and know that God has this all in his hands.

Oh yes, made some strange 'bread buns' this morning.  They were super salty but we had them with tomatoes at lunchtime.  We are blessed with tomatoes, having ordered 4 and then the supermarket sent 4 boxes of them.....ha ha ha

Thursday, March 19, 2020

Well, it's been a while since I have blogged I have to say!!

Today is Thursday 19th March and nearly everyone is inside because of the Corona Virus.  The virus started in China at the new year and because it is completely new, no one has vaccines or any treatment.  To date thousands of people globally have caught it and many have died.  It is now a pandemic.

It's truly bizarre to live in this world now.  Today, in Texas, all schools, restaurants and bars are closed.  I must say that the majority of food places are doing food delivery or curbside service but it hasn't impacted us too much because we rarely eat out (maybe just a few times a year).  However for some people it will be a great blow.
There has been some crazy panic buying of ......toilet paper?  The symptoms of Covid 19 are dry cough, fever and difficulty breathing.  Not sure what they will be using the toilet paper for I'm sure.
Anyway, this week we have done our first online shopping since coming to the States.  Kroger are  not delivering here but we went to their pick up point.  They were only short of four things we ordered so that's good.  We have lots of meals already in the freezer because whatever recipe Steve does is usually for more than 2 so we freeze what's left.  Sooooo glad for that.  The other shopping we did was with Katy Budget Books who were selling pre-wrapped parcels of books, grouped by genre.  So we bought a kids pack, an inspirational pack and a mystery pack.  Wow!  What a bargain.  It's strange to buy books sight unseen but it's opening up a whole new area for me to read so, watch this space.

The main defense at the moment is hand washing.  You would not believe the number of videos and instructions there are about how to wash your hands and it has to be for at least 20 seconds.  That's two renditions of Happy Birthday to You in case you weren't sure:-)

BUT a lovely thing has happened today..... I received from Amazon a set of divine bath bombs.  I have no idea who sent them, but I love my nightly bath and will certainly be using one tonight.

I will try to give more news day by day, but who knows?
